So, I was going to try to have this great intro blog post to introduce you to the farm and to try to kick off this whole blog idea. But that’s been hard to come up with. I decided not to. ?
We tried something new today. We sold meat at our first farmers market! The Hmong Community Center in La Crosse has a small farmers market on Thursdays that we decided to try selling at. The other vendors there had produce and flowers, but there was no one with meat. So we wouldn’t be stepping on any toes with a competing product.
Jordan and I got there around 7:30 to set up. There were a couple other vendors set up by that time. The first few hours were really slow. We managed to get some paperwork done that’s been put on the backburner for a couple of weeks, so that was good. Things picked up for us around 10:00. The crowd was pretty steady the whole time at the market, it just wasn’t a large crowd. Everyone that stopped by seemed very interested in our product, even if they didn’t get anything.
The weather made things difficult today. Around 11:00 we were talking about staying until the market closed at 3:00. But then it started sprinkling. Just before noon the rain got heavier. We weren’t committed to having to stay past noon, so we decided to pack up instead.
All in all, it wasn’t a bad day. The goal, besides to sell meat, was to get our name out there. We need people to say, “Christenson Farm? They have great beef! You should try it.”
I believe Jordan will be there again next week (8/12/21), so stop on by.
Also, I got a really pretty bouquet of flowers!
And silly me, I can’t figure out how to make “actual” blog posts… I’m still learning how to do this.
